At Sargasso and Grey, we are known for creating Wide Fit and Extra Wide Fit shoes with specialist comfort technology, designed to look elegant and feel comfortable from the first wear.

What makes a true wide fit shoe?
A shoe is built around a last, the foot-shaped mould that sets its width, depth and shape. Many “wide fit” shoes are made on a standard last with extra material added to the upper, so the sole, toe box and overall shape are still made for a standard foot.

Every Sargasso & Grey shoe is built on a custom wide-fit last, so the whole shoe is designed to be wide from the start: the sole, the toe box and the upper. That’s why our shoes give you room where you need it while still looking slim and elegant on the foot.
Comfort built into every pair
Comfort goes beyond width. Each pair is carefully crafted for all-day comfort, without looking orthopaedic, so you can wear the beautiful shoes you thought you’d had to give up.
Smooth & Soothe
Hidden foam panels line the toe box, cushioning bunions and sensitive toes while the outside stays smooth and elegant.
Dual Memory Foam Insoles
A double layer of memory foam in a soft leather insole, with breathable arch support built into many styles. Selected heels use PORON® memory foam.
EE and EEE Fittings
Every style is made in a true Wide EE or Extra Wide EEE fit, with extra room and width across the toe box.
High Coverage Vamps
Cut to cover the toe joint, for less friction over bunions and a slimmer line on a wide foot.
Premium Leather and Suede
Supple uppers that mould to the shape of your foot, handcrafted in Spain.
Premium comfort, engineered for wide feet

Comfort is never an afterthought at Sargasso & Grey. It is engineered into every layer of every pair.
Inside many styles, our Smooth & Soothe foam panels wrap the toe box in a hidden cushion, so bunions and sensitive joints are protected from the very first step. Underfoot, dual layers of memory foam mould to the shape of your foot, with breathable arch support in many styles and PORON® cushioning in selected heels. Our platform designs lower the pitch of the foot, giving you the height of a heel with the feel of a flat. Selected boots are built on featherlight COMFORT LIGHT soles. Our barefoot trainers combine a zero-drop sole with a removable foam layer, so you can tailor the depth to your foot.
All of this sits inside butter-soft leather and suede, cut generously in EE and EEE fittings and handcrafted in Spain. The result is luxury you can feel: shoes that look beautifully elegant and feel wonderfully comfortable, all day long.
Our story

Katie Owen founded Sargasso & Grey in 2014 after years of searching for elegant shoes that fitted her wide feet, and never finding them. When her own survey showed that over half of UK women needed a wider fit than standard shoes offered, she knew she wasn’t alone. So, she created the shoes she couldn’t find. Today, every style is still designed, tried and tested by women who wear them.

Do you need wide fit shoes?
Most women's shoes in the UK are made in a standard D fitting. If standard shoes feel tight across the ball of your foot, you may need a wider fitting.

Fittings vary between brands. Every Sargasso & Grey shoe is made in EE or EEE.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best shoes for wide feet?
The best shoes for wide feet are made in a true wide fitting (E, EE or EEE), with a wide, deep toe box, soft leather or suede uppers, cushioning over the toe joints and a stable heel.
Fit matters: a systematic review found that up to 72% of people wear shoes that do not match the width or length of their feet (Buldt & Menz, Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, 2018).
What do E, EE and EEE mean?
They are width fittings. Standard women’s shoes in the UK are usually a D fitting. E is wide, EE is wider and EEE is extra wide. Every Sargasso & Grey shoe is made in Wide EE or Extra Wide EEE.
Which Sargasso & Grey shoes are widest?
Our Extra Wide EEE styles. For very wide feet, start with the Christina flat, the Lou micro heel or the Suzie block heel court.
Do all styles fit the same?
No. Each style is made in EE or EEE, and some have their own fit notes on the product page. The Lou, for example, runs generous, so we recommend going a half size down.
Should I size up for wide feet?
No. A bigger size adds length, not width, and causes heel slip. Choose a wider fitting in your usual size. If you are unsure of your width, see our shoe fitting guide.
What if I am between EE and EEE?
Choose EEE in soft suede, which moulds to the foot, or contact us for advice on specific styles.
Which toe shape is best for wide feet?
Toe shape depends more on the shape of your toes than on the width of your foot. If your toes slope sharply from the big toe, pointed or almond styles usually suit you. If your toes are a similar length, round or square toes give the most room.
Choose the fitting for your width, then the toe shape for your toe line.
My forefoot is wide but my heel is narrow. What should I choose?
All of our shoes at Sargasso & Grey are made to be Wide or Extra Wide in the toe box area only. If your heel is particularly narrow, look for buckles, straps, slingbacks or elasticated backs that hold the heel securely.
Are your shoes suitable for bunions?
Yes, many are. EEE styles give extra room, high-coverage vamps reduce friction over the joint, and our Smooth & Soothe foam panels cushion the big toe joint. See our shoes for bunions.
I have a bunion but my feet are not wide. Will your shoes be too wide?
Start with our Wide EE fitting, which gives room at the joint without being loose through the rest of the foot. Soft suede styles and designs with a buckle or strap help keep a narrower heel secure, and Smooth & Soothe cushions the bunion itself.
What if I have a high instep as well as wide feet?
A high instep needs depth, not just width. Look for EEE styles with an adjustable buckle, strap or elasticated panel over the top of the foot. Read more in our guide to the best shoes for a high instep.
Do you make wide fit trainers?
Yes, our wide fit trainers can be found here. We also have a range of Barefoot Trainers, which have a zero-drop sole and a removable foam layer, so you can adjust the depth to your foot.
Can I return or exchange if the fit is not right?
Yes, we offer free returns for customers in the UK, and an arranged service for international customers. You can view our returns policy here for more information.
